How to Apply to a Suffolk County Civil Service Position

Because of the popularity of prior posts regarding Civil Service Positions, The Brentwood CDC has created a handy primer on applying to Suffolk County Civil Service Positions.

Step 1: The Current Openings for Civil Service Positions are found on the Suffolk County Government web site, which is http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov.

Step 2: Hover your mouse over the Government Tab, which will open up a new frame. There’s no need to click on the tab, it should open automatically.

If you see this frame, click on “Civil Service” (It’s been highlighted for your convenience.)

Step 3: Now that you’ve clicked on the Civil Service Link, you should be on the Civil Service Page. You would also be able to reach this link by typing in http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/civilservice.aspx.
Step 4: Once you’ve reached this page, click on the Green Button Titled “Current List of Exams”. This will give you a listing of all the open Suffolk County Government Civil Service Positions.
Tip: It’s always good to check back regularly, as postings are added every few weeks.

Civil Service Positions

The Civil Service Positions in the area could be found on the right-hand side of the page, under Government Agencies and Civil Service. Because New York State restricts internet users from posting information directly about their positions open, an RSS feed is located to the right side of this page under “New York State Open Competitive Exams”. Positions in Various Civil Service Divisons

• An Assistant Conductor Position is available from the MTA. The position opened November 19th and will close on December 3rd. The 100% hourly rate of pay is 32.753 per hour. A civil service exam is required to qualify for this position. Under MTA employment opportunities, click on Long Island Railroad and follow the prompts. When asked to search, click on advanced search. Then in the Job ID field, use the Job ID to find the position. (Job ID #: 75647)
• The New York State Department of Civil Service is hiring for a Institution Safety Officer with a starting salary of $33,541 at the GS-9 level. Appointees working in New York City, Rockland, Westchester, Nassau or Suffolk would receive a $1,200 downstate adjustment. Applicants will be required to take a written exam. Exam guides have been developed by the State to help applicants prepare for the exam. Applications must be submitted by December 24th. (Exam number: 25-545)
• DCAS has openings for Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental and Mechanical Engineers. These positions are open-competitive and close on the 4th of December.
