Job Resources for Seniors

Older Americans are increasingly staying in the workforce. From 1977 to 2007, employment of workers aged 65 and older rose 75 percent. Due to the effects of the economic Recession and new technology, Older workers may find it more difficult to find and apply for jobs. For this reason, the Brentwood CDC is taking steps to help older members of our community use quality resources to find and apply for jobs:

AARP – Job Hunting

Created by the AARP, their Job Hunting page has a wealth of resources directed towards older Americans. Topics include growing fields for Older Americans, Using Social Networking to find a job, Tough Interview Questions and How to Avoid Job Scams.

Ask a Manager —

Written by a Hiring Manager turned consultant, Alison Green has started a website that informs job seekers how Managers view their job and their relationship to employers. The website also takes questions from her readers, so feel free to ask if there is anything that she hasn’t covered. Towards the top-middle of the page on the right are posts grouped by category. From Advice about your boss (225) to Cover Letters (27), the categories link can help you quickly search for the information you need.

How to List Foreign Work on a Resume – eHow

You only get a few seconds to grab the hiring manager’s attention with your resume. But if the manager fails to recognize the significance of your international experience — perhaps because he doesn’t realize the responsibility associated with the job title, or the size and status of the company — you might lose out on an opportunity to impress. You can’t assume a domestic hiring manager will be familiar with foreign operations, even if the company is well-known abroad. Instead, assume the reader knows nothing about the international firm, and format your resume accordingly.
